NEW KING STREET

This garden was established on commercial land in North Castle in fall 2008. All food produced there is donated to several local food pantries including the Carver Center and Caritas in Port Chester, the Harrison Food Pantry, the YMCA of Yonkers and several others. In the fall of 2011, Rye Country Day School connected with the New King Street garden for their Public Purpose Mission. The 8th grade students came twice a year (fall and spring) for 3 days, 4 hours each day to work and learn in the garden. Our relationship with them is ongoing and growing. This year we will expand to work with the entire Middle School and some classes in the lower school.

GREENHOUSE

Pepsico has generously granted Our New Way Garden use of the nursery greenhouse at their corporate headquarters. Through their generosity we are able to start all of our plants from seed. We are also able to hold daily workshops in the greenhouse, as they have created a classroom space adjacent to the growing area. Students from local school are able to come and study and learn about plants, growing food, working in a greenhouse and many other related areas.

REACH ACADEMY/KENNETH CLARK ACADEMY

Our New Way Garden has worked with REACH Academy since winter 2011. Since 2012, we have had a contract with the Greenburgh-North Castle Union Free School District to work with their students at REACH academy. We work two full days a week with teachers and students to create curriculum that integrates the garden into their vocational and life skills programs. We are also adding curriculum that connects the garden to the Alternate Assessment Program in Math, Science, Social Studies and English.

OUR FARM AT PURCHASE

Our New Way Garden secured a partnership with a country club in Purchase allowing us to create an expansive garden (our biggest one). This site is also home to our coolers which store our harvest before it is shipped to food pantries and charities. While this garden is still in progress, we are hopeful for the future!
